Art Therapy
Art therapy is a therapeutic modality that utilizes creative expression through painting, drawing, and other visual media to support individuals in addressing emotional, psychological, and behavioral challenges.
Guided by trained therapists, clients engage in artistic activities to explore and process their feelings, enhance self-awareness, and develop coping skills. Grounded in psychology and psychotherapy principles, art therapy offers a non-verbal means of communication and healing, suitable for a range of ages and abilities.
Art Therapy for Speech Goals
Art therapy can be a form of communication development which allows you to express yourself through the use of various art mediums. You are encouraged to discuss your art as you create, as well as when it’s complete.
If you or someone you love needs help with verbal expressions and/or auditory comprehension, we have many fun art therapy treatments to engage all of the senses.
Art Therapy for Motor Goals
Working with various art modalities will help improve hand-eye coordination, flexibility, and hand strength.
Making collages requires tearing, cutting, and opening/squeezing glue jars, working with clay requires rolling, forming, pinching, and twisting. Painting also helps improve dexterity through the use of various paint brush sizes. Making jewelry requires threading beads, which is also good practice to improve fine motor skills.
All of these various art therapy techniques are so fun and engaging, improving fine and gross motor skills without it feeling like work or exercise!
Art Therapy for Sensory Integration
The creative activities offered in art therapy offer unique ways to gain a sense of control of your surroundings. Working with a variety of textures in a safe, encouraging environment can help people become more comfortable with unfamiliar or disliked tactile sensations, while also creating a product that they can take pride in.
Our art therapist can help those with visual and auditory processing difficulties experience breakthroughs in a fun and comfortable environment. The slow exposure to new materials can increase self-esteem, personal awareness and personal growth.
